Seeking the Arcane in the Everyday

Seeking the Arcane in the Everyday.

A fleeting moment of transcendence from the mundane and elemental.  A state of ambivalence or uncertainty toward reality. It fuels a desire to embrace the irrational, absurd and incidental emerging from the subconscious in the belief that breaking down barriers of reason facilitates an active imagination. This is the basis for creating pictures that can capture a glimpse of the arcane through a creative/visual transformation whereas both personal/subjective observations and rational alterations (of reality) interact within theatrical, cinematic, and art historical modes of presentation. The paradoxical relationship is a key element in representing a spiritual/existential experiences and as "human" forms of beauty and reality. Exploring the transformative nature of art to evoke the metaphysical.

Pictures that enter into and navigate gray areas, rabbit holes and paradoxical interpretations in direct conflict to fixed meaning, or definitive points of view. Pictures that attempt to unite and engage the audience within a shared experience through provoked mediation. Pictures linked to a process of immateriality, a studio practice that facilitates the possibility of brief but poignant moment(s) transcending, searching for elusive esoteric truths, exploring possibilities in facilitating a higher level of consciousness. Pictures that investigate what lies between the conscious and subconscious to reveal what may be hidden from us but acknowledged in visual form.           A form that might appear familiar yet nonsensical, or lack rationality but possess intrinsic significance.

Pictures that merge the enduring ideas of mysticism, transcendentalism, romanticism, and existentialism. Pictures that reveal underlying sensations and experiences that feel universal, yet are also tied to our present, post-industrial, enlightened, trans-progressive zeitgeist. An altered vision of self and society, even. Pictures that could not exist without genuine spirit and passion rooted in artistic practice and human endeavor.
