Charlotte Enters The Subconscious And Begins To Build A Better Future, 2015-16
"One must confront vague ideas with clear images" Jean luc Godard
"Charlotte et le Subconscient" (as its become known) investigations timeless the world of the subconscious, ambiguity, raising questions, presenting opportunities for mediation and contemplation. The gray areas between reality/myth, fact/fiction are sought in a desire to transcend to higher places in life to a deeper understanding beyond our elemental world. The episodic series reflect a time/space based meaning, quasi-fictional scenes that utilize pictorial conventions of traditional collage and montage techniques. Distinctions between inner/outer worlds are are key, underlying themes that facilitate a state of mind in mediation, revere, provoked through dichotomies. Both the subject depicted and the viewer are sharing in this mediation of an "American Dream" and the subconscious power it has over us, to direct our lives, or it's fact and fiction promises. Not unlike Alice entering through the looking glass our protagonist is also searching for a wonderland of sorts, dreaming a dream to escape reality, to transcend beyond it and the mundane, or perhaps to a higher form of existence beyond what a house in the suburbs, and what the material world can't provide.
