Beyond the Magnetic Fields
"Wonder" is a three-part unified series of pictures that follow a central protagonist, clairvoyant-like seeker caught up in a fantastical and unpredictable journey to uncover the underlying, esoteric truth of things. It presents, in a form of allegorical initiation, a revelation of the unseen, of the open-ended mysteries surrounding human existence and how we interpret reality. It's a story within a story, within multiple planes of reality, simultaneous dimensions in time and space. The final narrative series include 64 -5x7 c-prints within continuous frieze-like linear narrative format. "Wonder" is based on a range of ideas and concepts that I have been exploring in my art, most that I'm already familiar with and contribute to a deeply humanistic (as is possible) layered approach to creating intrinsic meaning. With hubris in Greek tragedy, visionary Sibyls, temples and caves, Dante's Inferno, Caravaggio's Conversion of St. Paul, Godard's Breathless, and the 1977 Tenerife plane disaster, esoteric color hues like ultraviolet, or the subversive irony of Wonder bread are referenced then linked together in alchemy like inseparable fractal networks that attempt to define and explore larger, timeless themes of transcendence, prophesy, fate, human fallacy and polemic forces of the benevolent and the malicious. To be transfixed within a perpetual state of wonderment.
